Abstract

As qubit hardware improves, Quantum Error Correction (QEC) has become the next major milestone in experimental Quantum Engineering. As the field progresses and QEC circuits become more complex, it’s important to have open tools that support the flexible creation, modification and execution of circuits across different QEC codes. Deltakit is an open-source software framework for building, compiling and running QEC experiments on actual quantum hardware, and supports the most popular error-correcting codes, including surface codes and bivariate bicycle codes. In this talk, we will give an overview of Deltakit as a software framework for quantum error correction and demonstrate how to use it to generate circuits that implement error-correcting codes, add realistic noise models and convert them to native gatesets for quantum hardware platforms. We will demonstrate our analysis tools that help estimate noise budgets for quantum hardware systems and estimate the contributions of different system characteristics to the overall error suppression factor for logical circuits. We will also highlight Deltakit’s integration with Deltaflow, a real-time hardware platform for QEC, and show how to run these circuits on real hardware to enable real-time quantum error correction experiments.
